First licensed in August of 1958 as KN4OFH, I took a 10 year hiatus from 1959 to 1969 while serving in the armed forces and starting a family. I returned to ham radio in late September of 1969 as WN4MUR and received my General Class license in the mail on September 16, 1970. I continued as a General Class operator until August 1978 when I traded WB4MUR in for KB4LA and Advanced Class status. Amateur Extra Class was achieved in August of 1982 but I retained the callsign, KB4LA. In September of 2005 I upgraded callsigns by retiring KB4LA in favor of K4OD. My love for ham radio and interest in computers continues. All contacts made by this station are uploaded on a daily basis to A.R.R.L.s LOGBOOK of The WORLD.(www.arrl.org/lotw)

I also maintain a complete indepth log of every contact using Scott Davis'(N3FJP) 'Amateur Contact Log' (www.n3fjp.com) Scott has one of the very best all-around logging programs to be had at a price that's difficult to beat. Once properly setup, it is an absolute joy to upload data to the ARRL's LOGBOOK of THE WORLD(the preferred way).

I QSL 100%. I DO NOT participate in the Eqsl program. My cards are individually printed on an as needed basis with all data concerning the contact printed as well. All one need do to receive a card from K4OD is request one or send one of theirs. I use a variety of QSL styles and each card has my original signature affixed.

I am now retired from the field of Law Enforcement. My other hobbies include novice designing of web pages and the building and flying of remote controlled 'scale' model aircraft.

Amateur radio operators (Ham Operators) are in virtually every known country of the world with the capability to contact each other via the airways and have, in many cases, provided the only effective means of communications in times of natural disasters such as earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and even the recent Tsunami in the Indian Ocean. Ham radio operators in Europe were instrumental in providing covert communications to Allied forces leading up to and throughout the invasion of Normandy and the rest of Europe.
